Joanne Palombo-McCallie coached the Maine Women’s basketball team for eight season from 1992-1993 to 1999-2000. She led the black bears to six straight NCAA tournament appearances, including four straight conference tournament titles and four regular season titles. Palombo-McCallie received Coach of the Year honors four times. She finished with an overall record of 167-73 with the Black Bear and a record of 109-25 in conference play. After leaving Maine, she went on to coach at Michigan State where she led the Spartans to the National Championship game in 2005 and earned National Coach of the Year honors. In 2008, she was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. Following Michigan State, Palombo-McCallie became the head women’s basketball coach at Duke University.
