University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame
Brian McCall was hired as Maine's first full time basketball coach in the summer of 1958. In his first three seasons, he led the Black Bers to records of 15-7, 19-4 and 18-5, an amazing 52 wins in 68 games. His 19-4 squad ranked as high as sixth in the National Small College Poll. McCall coached at Maine until 1968, winning six Maine State Series titles. He then resigned to become an assistant to the Athletic Director Harold Westerman. In 10 seasons McCall won 120 games. He also coached the golf and tennis teams at the University of Maine.
