Keith Mahaney was once described as a basketball player ahead of his time. Upon graduation he held 11 of th 14 Maine basketball records. He was fifth in the nation his sophomore year with an 81.4% foul shooting average. He led the Yankee Conference in scoring his junior year with 23.8 points per game and was the Maine State Series leader with 23.3 points per game. As a senior he rewrote the record book, breaking nine records and tying his own record by scoring 39 points at UMass his final season. He was twice named All-Maine, All-Yankee Conference and All-American honorable mention. The University of Maine retired his jersey #24 in 1997.
