Ed Flaherty led the University of Maine baseball team in hitting in 1975. On the shoulders of his .388 batting average, Flaherty earned All-America honors. He was named All-Yankee Conference and NCAA Regional All-Tournament in 1975. In 1976 his outfield play aided Maine to its second consecutive New England title and an NCAA Regional Championship and a berth in the College World Series. Following his playing career at Maine, Flaherty became the head baseball coach at the University of Southern Maine. In 1991, he guided them to the NCAA III National Championship.
