Paul was captain of Maine’s 1984 baseball team. He was a 3-year started for the Black Bears’ NCAA Northeast Regional Championships and College World Series appearances in 1981.1982.1983. And 1984. He was named to the NCAA All-Regional team in 1982 and 1984. He batted .340 or better in three seasons at Maine and hit .301 in 73 NCAA Tournament at bats. He earned a spot on the ECAC All-Tournament team in 1983 and 1984. He tied or held five school marks including, a Maine-best 19-game hit streak. After earning All-New England honors in 1984, he was drafted by the Texas Rangers.
