Ray Weed was captain of the University of Maine baseball team during his senior season. He led the Black Bears in hitting from 1959 to 1961 with averages of .395, .411 and .321 respectively. He had a career average of .375 with 20 doubles and eight triples. In 1960 he led the Black Bears to a co-championship of the Yankee Conference and earned First Team All-New England honors. He was a member of Maine's All-Time College Team as selected by the Maine Sunday Telegram.
