Mark Sweeney served as co-captain of the 1991 baseball team that won a school record 48 games and advanced to the NCAA Northeast Regional final. He held 23 school records upon his graduation and had been named All-American on three occassions. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1990, but returned to Maine as a senior. Later, he was drafted and signed by the California Angels. After being traded, Sweeney made his Major League debut in 1995 with the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed a 14-year Major League career.
