University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame
Will Spencer dominated the 880-yard run during his three-year varsity career, setting the University of Maine, Yankee Conference and State Series records. He won the Yankee Conference event all three years and the State Series event twice. He qualified for and participated in the IC4A championships in 1960 and ’61. Indoors, he set the UMaine and field house record in the 600-yard run. Overall, he earned six letters. Off the track, he was president of his class for three years and a Senior Skull. During a 25-year U.S. Army career, he served two decorated tours in Vietnam, rose to lieutenant colonel and participated in high-level military athletic competition.
