Roger Lapham was a four-year letter winner in basketball from 1975-1979, and also earned a varsity letter in football in 1979. Lapham led the men’s basketball team in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game during the 1976.19777 season. He currently ranks sixth on Maine’s all-time scoring list with 1,523 points in 100 career games. Lapham holds a share of the school record for the best field goal percentage in a game after going a perfect 12 for 12 in a game against Valparaiso on Dec. 23, 1978. He also played football for the Black Bears and led the team in receptions in 1979. Lapham was the first University of Maine student-athlete to be drafted by two professional teams. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 12th round of the 1980 draft, after being selected in the ninth round of the NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks the previous year.
