University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame
Chet Jenkins served as track and cross country coach at the University of Maine for 27 years. He recorded an overall record of 100 wins and 40 losses with his track teams, and 44 wins and 13 losses in cross country. His 1929 and 1930 outdoor track teams won 14 state titles. His two mile relay teams between 1933 and 1935 won the BAA Games and finished third Nationally. His 1934 and 1938 cross country teams won both Maine State and New England championships. He coached two Olympic athletes in Don Favor and Robert Bennett, both hammer throwers. Under his tutelage the Black Bear cross country teams won six New England, three Yankee Conference and 13 Maine titles. He was inducted into the Helms Foundation Hall of Fame in 1963.
