Paul Firlotte was named Bangor Daily News Most Outstanding Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1955, culminating four fine years as a cross country and track runner at Maine. Firlotte won three straight Yankee Conference cross country titles and captured a New England Championship his final year. He served as cross country captain both his junior and senior seasons leading the Black Bears to Yankee Conference titles in 1954 and 1955. In 1955, the Black Bears also captured the New England title.
