Kariya, a 19999 Hobey Baker Award Finalist, led Maine to its second NCAA National Championship in men’s ice hockey in 1999. A two-year captain, he was a First Team All-American, a Hockey East First Team selection and named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team. He earned the Hockey East Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award in 1997, 1998, and 1999. He ranks tied for sixth on Maine’s All-Time scoring list with 78 goals and 109 assists for 187 career points in 150 games. Kariya also excelled in the classroom. He was named a CoSIDA All-District selection in 1997 and 1999. He was a three-time Hockey East Academic Honor Roll selection.
