Gordon “John” Gillette earned first-team All-Yankee Conference basketball honors as a senior, second-team recognition as a junior, and All-State Series honors both years, while career averages place him in the top five in UMaine history in both scoring and rebounding. He is fifth in scoring at 17.3 points per game and second in rebounding with 10.2 per game. As a senior captain and as a junior he led the Black Bears in scoring and he was second-high scorer as a sophomore. He also lettered three years in baseball, was recognized as an outstanding defensive first baseman, and played on Maine’s first College World Series team in 1964.
