University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame
Shawn Walsh compiled a record of 399-215-44 in 17 years as head hockey coach at the University of Maine from 1984 to 2001. He led the program to national prominence by taking 11 teams to the NCAA Tournament and seven teams to the Frozen Four. He led the Black Bears to National Championships in 1993 and 1999. His 1992-93 squad compiled a record of 42-1-2, one of the best seasons in college hockey history. In 1994-95, Walsh earned the prestigious Spencer Penrose Award as the National Coach of the Year. He was named Hockey East and New England Coach of the Year four different times. Walsh coached numerous players who have won individual national honors as well as advanced to play professionally.
