University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame
Fred Brice, known as "Foxy", coached the University of Maine football team from 1921 to 1940, compiling a record of 81-57-9. Brice led his teams to 10 Maine State Series titles and became known for smart, crafty plays and the many innovations he brought to the sport of football. One of the golden eras in University of Maine football took place between 1925 and 1928 when the Black Bears won 22 games and lost only five. Brice's 1927 squad also won the New England Championship.
