Dennis Libbey was a co-captain and shortstop of the 1973 University of Maine baseball team that led the nation in fielding percentage. He led Maine in hitting during his sophomore season with an average of .342 and was a First Team All-Yankee Conference selection. In 1971, Libbey set University of Maine records for most hits and most singles in a season. He was also the Black Bear career record holder for most runs scored and stolen bases. He was the organizer and first president of the Friends of Maine Baseball Club, is former president of the M Club and has served on the Athletic Advisory Board.
