Carl Smith was a four-year letterwinner in both track and football at the University of Maine. He was an All-American in 1989, two time First Team All-Conference selection in 1989 and 1990 and Yankee Conference Rookie of the Year in 1988. At the time of induction he shared or held 13 University of Maine football records. He led the nation in rushing with 1680 yards in 1989. In track he was an All-New England and All-Conference selection, sharing or holding four school records. He won the 100 meter New England Championship in 1990.
