Dr. Winkin coached baseball at the University of Maine for 22 years and compiled a record of 642-430-3. He took six teams to the College World Series, finished third in the nation twice and competed in 11 NCAA Regional Tournaments. Winkin was named the NCAA I National Coach of the Year in 1965, New England Division I Coach of the Year in 1975 and Northeast Region Division I Coach of the Year in 1976, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1991. He has been elected to the Maine Baseball, ABCA and Maine Sports Hall of Fame. Winkin also received the Lefty Gomez Award for contribution to baseball and the ECAC Distinguished Achievement Award. Besides coaching at Maine, Winkin served as a scout to the Boston Red Sox, coach at Colby College from 1954 to 1974, coach of the U.S. National Team in 1983 and coach at Husson University from 1997 to 2008.
