University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame
Phil McGeoghan was one of the University of Maine’s finest pure athletes — in two sports. He was a record-breaking seven-foot high jumper and a game-breaking wide receiver. He set UMaine’s indoor high jump record at an even 7-feet and the school and America East outdoor record of 7-0 1/4. He was twice New England high jump champion. McGeoghan ranks fifth among Black Bears in career receptions (151) and receiving yards (2,343), compiled in three seasons. He was a Senior Skull and Dean Smith Award winner. Following four injury-plagued years on NFL rosters he turned to coaching and was on the San Diego Chargers’ staff when selected for the Hall of Fame.
