Softball Splits 'Doubleheader' with Wisconsin and Southern Utah

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, Ut. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the University of Wisconsin, 10-2, in the first game of the 'doubleheader' before Southern Utah was defeated by the Black Bears, 7-4, during the second game of the Dixie Softball Classic.
 
Game 1 - Maine: 2 Wisconsin: 10
 
The Wisconsin Badgers scored three runs in the top of the first and second inning. Gabbie Siciliano was called upon in the bottom of the second to limit the damage.
 
Kelby Drews doubled in the top of the fourth before Jasmine Gray drove home the shortstop. Gray touched home when Katie Jo Moery was thrown out at second base. They were the only runs of the contest for the Bears.
 
Wisconsin scored four in the bottom of the sixth to complete the run-rule of the University of Maine, 10-2.
 
Notes: Game 2 - Maine: 7 Southern Utah: 4
 
Southern Utah scored one run in the top of the first, but the lead was short lived. After Brianna Neely singled to left, Kelby Drews crushed a two-run home run to left field. At the end of the first inning, Maine led 2-1.
 
In the top of the third inning, SUU drove in two runs. Caitlyn Fallon was called upon to stop the damage. After three complete, the Black Bears trailed 3-2.
 
The lead was once again short lived for Southern Utah. Izzy Nieblas and Rylee Kent both scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rebecca Findley and Gabby Papushka were credited with the RBI during the rally. Maine held a 4-3 lead after four innings.
 
Jasmine Gray, Kylee Rent, and Kyrah Haba-Dailey all scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kennedy Priest and Dailey drove home two of the runs, while Gray's run was manufactured.
 
SUU added another run in the top of the seventh inning, but it was as close as Southern Utah would get. Maine won the non-conference contest, 7-4.
 
Notes:  
Next: The Black Bears return to the diamond for two games tomorrow, Saturday, March 12. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
