IN 2022: Made nine starts and 23 total appearances in first collegiate season … recorded one complete game and 32 strikeouts … recorded her first career strikeout at UT-Martin (2/18) ... tallied a season and career high in both innings pitched (six) and strikeouts (six) at Charleston Southern (2/25) ... allowed only two runs over five innings pitched against Hartford in her final game of the season (5/6).

BEFORE MAINE: Gruitch, who comes to Orono from Greenwood Village, Colorado, played for four years and was a senior captain at Cherry Creek High School and for some time with the Colorado Angels Softball Club. For the Angels in 2021, Gruitch pitched 147 innings and had 146 strikeouts amidst their run to 18u PGF Nationals where they placed in the top-10. Gruitch was a highly-touted high school player and was named a member of the 2020 All-State team, All-Centennial League in 2019 and 2020, and was the Max Preps Player of the Game on August 22, 2020. In the classroom Gruitch also excelled. She was All-State Academic in 2019 and 2020 helped by four straight years of High Honors. Alex also qualified for and lettered in DECA.
