ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine baseball program will proudly celebrate its rich tradition and championship legacy by honoring all seven of its College World Series teams as part of 'Legends Weekend'. Members of each team will be welcomed back to Orono and introduced on field as part of a pregame ceremony on Saturday, May 16 when the Black Bears host UAlbany at 1 p.m.

1986: The final appearance the Black Bears have made in the College World Series to date, the 1986 Team won 41 games, the first team in the history of Maine baseball to eclipse the 40-win mark in a single season. Maine won the ECAC Championship, their fifth title in six years, where Bill Reynolds was named Regional MVP thanks to a four home run game in the 21-8 win over St. John's. Steve Loubier, Jeff Plympton and UMaine Hall of Famer, Scott Morse, all won eight games that season on the mound. Loubier had a 3.38 ERA across 93 and 1/3 innings pitched on the squad. Jay Kemble had a 4-3 record for the staff. David Gonyar served as one of the Captains of the Black Bears for the season, a season in which he hit .333. Dan Kane supported the second-best batting average on the season by a Black Bear, hitting .374. Rob Roy was part of the coaching staff led by Winkin for the 1986 season. Gary Dube (85-88) , Jim MacMichael (86), Mike Dutil (86-89/89 Captain) and Colin Ryan (86-89) were a part of the team for that season. Dutil, Ryan and Dube put together very successful careers as Black Bears throughout their time in Orono, helping the team win 89 games over the next three seasons.
