Orono, Maine -- The America East Conference announced on Thursday afternoon that Gianni Gambardella was named the University of Maine nominee for the annual Man of the Year award in the conference.

Gambardella, a senior out of West Haven, CT, has spent all four years of his collegiate career as a Black Bear. He is a three-time All-Conference pitcher, a 2023 Freshman All-American and the 2023 America East Tournament MVP. He has appeared in 51 games, striking out 170 batters with a 4.98 ERA.

In the classroom, he has a 3.7 GPA while he is Majoring in Finance with a minor in economics. He has appeared on the Dean's List five times and has been a UMaine Scholar Athlete four times. In the community,  he has volunteered with Bangor Little League helping run their camps, along with spending time with both Bangor and Orono running food drives.

The Finalists for the America East Man and Woman of the Year will be announced on May 26, with the winner being announced on June 2.
