Legends Weekend: 1984 College World Series Team

Maine's seven College World Series appearances to be celebrated on May 16

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine baseball program will proudly celebrate its rich tradition and championship legacy by honoring all seven of its College World Series teams as part of 'Legends Weekend'. Members of each team will be welcomed back to Orono and introduced on field as part of a pregame ceremony on Saturday, May 16 when the Black Bears host UAlbany at 1 p.m.

The teams will be recognized and celebrated for their lasting impact on the Maine baseball program and the University community, bringing together generations of Black Bears to reflect on unforgettable moments.

1984: The final of four-straight appearances in the College World Series for the Black Bears, the 1984 Team won their fifth-straight ECAC title. Jeff Paul concluded his hall of fame career by leading the Black Bears to four-straight appearances in the world series as he hit .384 on the season. Peter Bushway joined Paul as one of the Black Bears to be a part of each of the four-straight appearances in the World Series, hitting .294 across his 11 games played in those World Series. Rob Roy made a major impact as he led the squad with a .432 batting average on the season. Michael Ballou was part of the squad that won 33 games on the season. Tom Vanidestine served as a mentor for the second-straight season following his career ending injury he suffered leading into the 1983 season.
