ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine baseball program will proudly celebrate its rich tradition and championship legacy by honoring all seven of its College World Series teams as part of 'Legends Weekend'. Members of each team will be welcomed back to Orono and introduced on field as part of a pregame ceremony on Saturday, May 16 when the Black Bears host UAlbany at 1 p.m.
The teams will be recognized and celebrated for their lasting impact on the Maine baseball program and the University community, bringing together generations of Black Bears to reflect on unforgettable moments.
1982:Â The 1982 Black Bears were ECAC champions, won the NCAA Northeast Regionals and advanced to the College World Series where they posted wins over Stanford and Cal. State Fullerton. Kevin Bernier became one of five Maine players ever to be named to. the CWS All-Star Team. During the season, Bill Swift went 10-1 on the mound while Ed Pickett (.371), Rick Lashua (.353), Bernier (.347), and Jeff Paul (.341) led the Black Bears at the plate. Pickett, Swift, Brad Colton, Mark Sutton, and Joe Johnson were named first team, All-ECAC.
