Box Score 2 High Point, N.C. – The University of Maine baseball team was swept on Saturday in a doubleheader at High Point.
Game 1 - First Pitch (Noon) – (14-8 High Point)
Scoring Plays:
Juju Stevens opened the game up in a hurry by hitting the fifth pitch of the game to left field for a solo shot in the opening frame. The home run was his second of the season.
Hunter St. Denis added onto the four-run first inning by the Black Bears his first collegiate home run, a three-run shot to left field.
Troy Carpenter (1B) and
Brody Rasmussen (BB) scored on the play.
Albert De La Rosa scored the fifth run of the afternoon for Maine on a groundout in the third inning.
Troy Carpenter hit his second home run of the season in the eighth inning as he hit a two-run shot to right field, scoring
Christopher Mondesir (1B).
Stevens capped off the first game with his second solo shot of the first game as he hit another one to left field.
Pitching Breakdown:
Jason Krieger (0-2) got the start on the mound in the first game of the doubleheader as he went five innings, allowing 10 runs (9 earned) on 12 hits, four walks and a pair of strikeouts.
Brennan Rumpf went two innings in relief, allowing four runs on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Brennan Hileman made his Black Bear debut in the bottom of the eighth inning, allowing no runs on a walk and striking out two.
Game 2 – First Pitch (4 PM) – (5-3 High Point)
Scoring Plays:
Carpenter hit his second home run of the day, first of the game and third of the season, to get the Black Bears on the board first in the second inning with the solo shot.
Drew Reynolds made it 3-0 Black Bears in the second inning as he hit a two-run home run to right field, his first of the season, scoring Rasmussen (BB/SB).
Pitching Breakdown:
Thomas Stabley made the start on the mound for the Black Bears as he went four and 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, four walks and striking out three.
Tommy Martin (0-1) was first out of the pen in the game as he took over in the fifth inning. He went two and 2/3 in his outing, allowing three runs on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
Rex Hauser began the eighth frame on the mound for Maine, where he allowed one run on one hit, a hit batter and a walk and failed to record an out.
Owen Wheeler took over in the frame and stranded both runners left on base as he allowed no hits or walks in his one inning of work.
Notes:
- The three strikeouts for Stabley were the firsts of his collegiate career.
- Stevens and Carpenter both hit multiple home runs on the day, the first time since Quinn McDaniel and Jeremiah Jenkins both did it against Saint Joseph's in 2023.
