Vestel, N.Y. – The University of Maine baseball program advanced to the second day of the America East Tournament as they defeated UAlbany on Wednesday Night.
First Pitch – 5:45 PM – 11-5 Black Bears
Scoring Plays:
Hunter St. Denis got the Black Bears on the board in the bottom of the first frame, scoring
Nic Pepe (1B) to open up the scoring on the evening.
Brody Rasmussen brought in Maine's second run of the contest in the second inning as he hit a sac bunt to first base, plating
Quinn Murphy (1B).
Pepe capped off the four-run second inning by hitting a three-run home run to left field, his seventh of the season.
Albert De La Rosa (1B) and
Chris Bear (HBP) scored on the play.
De La Rosa added another run to the Black Bears total in the fourth inning as he hit a solo home run to right field, his fourth home run of the season.
The Black Bears tacked on five more runs in the sixth inning as Pepe brought home one on a single to center field, scoring Rasmussen (1B).
One batter later,
Juju Stevens plated a pair of runs on a single up the middle, scoring both Bear (FC) and Pepe (1B/SB).
Murphy capped off the scoring with a two-run double down the right field line, scoring both Stevens (1B) and St. Denis (1B).
Pitching Breakdown:
Jason Krieger (4-6) picked up the win as he went six and 1/3 innings in the start on a career-high 127 pitches, allowing five runs on 11 hits, two walk and seven strikeouts.
Pierce Friedman threw an inning and 2/3, allowing just one hit and striking out one batter.
Sebastian Holt threw the final inning for Maine, allowing no base runners in the frame while striking out one.

The Black Bears (22-30) advanced to the second day of the America East Tournament, where they will take on UMBC in the second game on Thursday, May 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM but is subject to change depending on when the first game of the day concludes.
