Vestel, N.Y. – The University of Maine baseball program took down #2 UMBC on the second day of the America East Championship to advance to the third day of the Tournament.

Scoring Plays:
Quinn Murphy hit a bases-clearing double to the top of the first frame to get the Black Bears in front 3-0.
Nic Pepe (BB),
Juju Stevens (BB) and
Shane Andrus (BB) all scored on the play.
Troy Carpenter put the Black Bears back in front in the fifth inning as he hit a two-run home run, his 15
th of the season, to left field.
Hunter St. Denis (1B) scored on the play.
Pitching Breakdown:
Vaun Larisa (4-4) fired five and a 1/3 innings while throwing a career-high 116 pitches in the start, allowing four runs on eight hits, four walks and five strikeouts.
Brennan Rumpf (2) picked up the save as he went the final three and 2/3 on the innings on the mound, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out one.
Next Time Out:
The Black Bears (23-30) advance to the finals of the winner's bracket where they will take on #1 Binghamton in the first game on Friday, May 22. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM with the winner advancing to the America East Baseball Championship on Saturday, May 23. The loser will play in the final game on Friday to advance to Saturday.
