Preview: Softball begins new era at Pinnacle PC Invitational

The Black Bears will kick off the 2025 season at the Pinnacle PC Invitational, hosted by Presbyterian College.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team will begin a new era this weekend, traveling to South Carolina for the first games under head coach Kimberly Stiles.
 
The Black Bears will kick off the 2025 season with the Pinnacle PC Invitational, hosted by Presbyterian College. Maine play at least four games, taking on East Tennessee State and Presbyterian from Friday to Sunday.

The tournament schedule is subject to change.

ABOUT PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE
  • The host Presbyterian Blue Hose enter the weekend at 2-3 overall after picking up two wins over Morehead State last weekend and dropping games to Northern Kentucky and George Washington.
  • Presbyterian went 15-36 during the 2024 campaign, which included a 5-13 mark in the Big South.
  • The Blue Hose are led by David Williams in his seventh season.
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between Maine and Presbyterian.
 
ABOUT EAST TENNESSEE STATE
  • The Buccaneers are 1-4 after the opening weekend, splitting a pair of games with Kent State and dropping contests to UMass and Campbell.
  • East Tennessee went 11-39 overall last season and 5-16 in Southern Conference play.
  • Cheryl Milligan is in her third season as head coach.
  • Maine is 3-0 all-time against East Tennessee … the Black Bears earned 3-0 and 1-0 wins in March 2004 and then picked up a 6-4 win in February 2006.  

ABOUT HEAD COACH KIMBERLY STILES
  • Kimberly Stiles was named the seventh head coach of the Maine softball program on July 9.
  • Stiles, who has achieved over 300 collegiate victories during her coaching career, comes to Orono with 14 years of head coaching experience across the Division I and Division II levels.
  • She most recently spent the past three seasons at Holy Cross, guiding the Crusaders' program to 50 wins in a three-year span for the first time in 25 years.
