Lowell, MA - The University of Maine baseball team put up five unanswered runs in the final three innings to take down UMass Lowell in the series opener, 5-2.

First Pitch: 6 P.M. (5-2 Maine)

Second Inning: UMass Lowell scored the opening run of the game on a wild pitch in the second inning.

Fourth Inning: UMass Lowell scored their second run (unearned) of the contest on a sac-fly to left field.

Sixth Inning: Owen Wheeler began the sixth inning on the mound for Maine. Geoff Mosseau turned in one of his best outings as a Black Bear in his first start since joining the Black Bears in 2023. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts across 5 innings of work.

Seventh Inning: Dean O'Neill brought home the first Black Bear run of the night as he singled up the middle, scoring Jeremiah Jenkins (1B).

Eighth Inning: The Black Bears tied the contest up and took the lead on back-to-back at bats as Jenkins singled to center field, scoring Jake Marquez (1B) and Jack Friend hit a sac-fly to left field, scoring Will Burns (1B).

Maine made it a four-run inning as Nick White hit a no-doubt two-run home run to right field, scoring Jenkins (1B) on the play. For White, the home run was his third of the season.

Marshall Smaracko began the eighth inning on the mound for Maine. Wheeler allowed no runs across his 2 innings of work. He walked 4 batters and struck out 1.

Ninth Inning: Luc Lavigueur was called on for the save opportunity in the ninth inning. Smaracko allowed just 1 walk and picked up 1 strikeout in his 1 inning of shutout work.

Wheeler picked up his first collegiate victory in relief as Lavigueur picked up his first save of the season as he allowed no base runners and struck out 1 for a perfect ninth inning.

Maine (8-20, 4-5 AE) is back in action on Saturday, Apr. 13 for game two of the weekend series against UMass Lowell. First pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M.
