Jason Krieger Selected in the 17th Round by the New York Yankees in the 2026 MLB Draft

Fourth-Straight Year a Black Bear has been selected in the MLB Draft

Orono, Maine -- Jason Krieger of the University of Maine baseball program was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 17th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday, July 12.

Krieger, a native of Red Lion, PA, spent all three years of his collegiate career as a Black Bear, having missed his second season due to Tommy John Surgery. In 2026, he was named to the America East All-Conference First Team as he paced the team with 88.2 innings pitched, 55 strikeouts and a 1.48 WHIP. In conference-only games, his 3.42 ERA was the seventh-lowest mark in the America East while he threw the second-most innings at 50. Along with being named to the All-Conference First Team, he also was named to the All-Academic Team for the 2026 season.

In 2024, Krieger was named to the America East All-Rookie Team as a true freshmen. For his collegiate career, he had a 4.86 ERA with 109 strikeouts in 153.2 innings pitched, recording five wins and a complete game during his career.

For the Black Bears, it is their fourth-straight season having a player drafted in the MLB Draft as Krieger joins Caleb Leys (2025), Jeremiah Jenkins (2024) and Quinn McDaniel (2023) to be drafted in consecutive years. Krieger is the eighth drafted Black Bears of the Nick Derba era at the helm of the Maine baseball program.
