Black Bears blank New Hampshire for second straight America East title

Maine won a second straight title with a 3-0 win at Mahaney Diamond.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team won its second consecutive America East Championship with a 3-0 win over rival New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.
 
Jordane Pinette opened the scoring just three minutes into the contest, firing home a loose ball in the box for her sixth of the season. Abby Kraemer doubled the lead eight minutes later when she finished off a wing service from Kayla Kraemer. Lara Kirkby capped the scoring in the 68th minute, sending a pass from Abby Kraemer under the crossbar.

Lara Kirkby earned the Elite 18 Award for having the highest GPA among student-athletes competing in the championship. Abby Kraemer, Myla Schneider, Emma Schneider and Kirkby earned spots on the All-Tournament Team while Myla Schneider was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
 
NOTES
  • New Hampshire had the 12-9 lead in shots while the teams were even in shots on goal at 5-5.
  • Maine had eight corners to three for New Hampshire.
  • Abby Kraemer and Lara Kirkby each had three points with one goal and one assist.
  • Maine is the first team to win back-to-back tournament titles since Stony Brook in 2019 and 2020.
  • Jordane Pinette scored her sixth goal of the season … it was her sixth game-winning goal of the year.
  • Grace Wilson made five saves for their third shutout of the season.
  • Myla Schneider, Emma Schneider and Anna Phillips all played the full 90 minutes.
  • Maine is now 18-19-4 in the all-time series with New Hampshire.
  • Maine's 13 wins on the season mark the most for the Black Bears since going 14-4-2 in 2006.
  • This was the first-ever championship game Border Battle.
