
Reinwald's brace lifts Maine to win over Mercer

The Black Bears earned a 3-1 win in the home opener.
ORONO, Maine – Behind a brace from Luise Reinwald, the University of Maine women's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Mercer on Thursday night in the 2026 home opener at New Balance Soccer Complex.
Isabella Meadows put Maine up 1-0 just 65 seconds into the contest, finishing a cross from Sandrine Brault. The visiting Bears responded just five minutes later, converting off of a throw in. But Reinwald's first of the night came in the 25th minute when she headed home a corner kick from Britta Denny and Maine went into the break with a 2-1 edge.
Reinwald's second of the game – a blast from 20 yards out in the 68th minute – gave Maine a cushion and the Black Bears closed out the final 28 minutes of play.
NOTES
- Maine had the 16-11 lead in shots … the teams were tied in shots on goal at 6-6.
- The teams were tied in corner kicks at 4-4.
- Elena Barenberg made five saves for Maine.
- Maine is now 1-0-0 in the all-time series with Mercer.
- Luise Reinwald's two goals marked her first career brace.
- Isabella Meadows scored her first collegiate goal.
