Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by George Washington, 9-4, in game number one, while also being defeated by Bucknell, 8-2, in game number two on day two.

Game One - Maine: 4 George Washington: 9
 
Alexandra Gruitch came out in the first inning locked in on the mound for the Black Bears, striking out two batters in the first frame.
 
The Black Bears got the on the score board first as Izzy Nieblas hit a bases-loaded sac fly to left field to score Katie Jo Moery and take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
 
George Washington tied the contest up in the top of the second inning as Sidney Torres grounded out to first, allowing Reese Torres to score. Daniella Lew would get her squad in a 2-1 lead as she stole home in the second inning.
 
Reese Torres drove in a pair of runs in the third inning for George Washington, scoring Mia Parker and Rose Cano. That hit brought the end of the day for Alexandra Gruitch. Ava Zettlemoyer was brought in relief.
 
Abby Schaub broke the contest open as she hit a three-run home run in the top of third inning to make it a 7-1 contest.
 
Mia Parker ended the three-inning run less drought for both sides as she hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to drive in Arizona Ritchie. Daniella Lew added an RBI single that in the frame.
 
Maggie Helms got the Black Bears their second run of the game as she came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit RBI single to right field, driving in Jasmine Gray.
 
Gabby Papushka got the Black Bears going in the bottom of the seventh as she hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Immy Gie.
 
Izzy Nieblas added onto the multi-run inning for the Black Bears as she hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Katie Jo Moery. It was as close as the Black Bears would get as they fell in the first game of the morning.
 
Game Two - Maine: 2 Bucknell: 8
 
Makenzie Hilling got Bucknell off to a fast start as she hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Chase Knapp scored on the play.
 
Bucknell added a pair of runs in the second inning as both Ava Aguilar and Marissa Rapino scored on back-to-back wild pitches.
 
Chase Knapp hit a two-run home run in the second inning, scoring Noelle Gardon.
 
Makenzie Hilling added a run to Bucknell's lead as she hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Elena Horn.
 
Anna Margetis got the Black Bears their first run of the game as she hit a double to left center, scoring Kelby Drews.
 
Chase Knapp drove in another run for her squad in the sixth inning as she hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Elena Horn.
 
Mariah Pearson got one run back for the Black Bears in the bottom of the seventh as she doubled to right center, driving home Katie Jo Moery. The rally fell short as Maine would drop both games on the rushed morning.
 
 Next: The Black Bears are scheduled to return to the diamond tomorrow, February 12 for one more games. First pitch against USC Upstate is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
