Box Score 2 Vestal, N.Y. -- The University of Maine softball team's (16-20, 10-3 America East) seven-game win streak was snapped when it dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Binghamton (20-21, 10-2 AE) on Saturday afternoon. Maine fell in game one by a score of 6-3 before dropping the finale, 5-1.
Rachel Carlson tallied two hits with a run and an RBI to extend her streak of reaching base safely out to 16 games.
In game one, Maine battled back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game but could not get over the hump, dropping the opener of Saturday's doubleheader by a score of 6-3.

Kristen Niland led the way with a pair of hits while
Meghan Royle drove in a pair in the loss.

Binghamton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Solo home runs from Kate Richard and Sara Herskowitz began the scoring before Carrie Maniccia stole third and later scored on an error.

Maine immediately responded with a three-run top of the third.
Erika Leonard started things with a leadoff walk, advancing to second on Carlson's single to left. With two outs,
Felicia Lennon's single loaded the bases before Royle's single to center brought in Leonard and Carlson. Lennon stole third and soon came in to score on Niland's RBI single to center.

Binghamton broke the tie when Richard belted her second home run of the game.

The Bearcats tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth.

The Black Bears were unable to close the gap, falling 6-3 in the opener.

Erin Bogdanovich took the loss for Maine after giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits in 5.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Annie Kennedy tossed an inning in relief, surrendering a pair of runs on two hits.

Binghamton again grabbed an early lead, plating a pair in the bottom of the first. Richard's sacrifice fly brought in Gabby Bracchi with the first one before Crysti Eichner drew a bases loaded walk, giving the Bearcats a 2-0 edge.

Maine cut the the lead in half with a run in the top of the third.
Sarah Coyne came in on
Rachel Carlson's RBI triple to right. The hit extended Carlson's on-base streak to 16 games.

Binghamton answered with two more in the bottom of the third, both runs coming in on bases loaded walks.

Eichner's RBI single to the gap in left center extended the Bearcats' lead to 5-1 in the fourth.

Binghamton's lead would hold, sweeping the doubleheader by a final of 5-1.

Molly Flowers was the Maine pitcher of decision, picking up the loss after going 2.2 innings and giving up four runs, two earned, on a hit and nine walks. Flowers fanned two in the outing. Bogdanovich came on in relief, tossing 3.1 inning and giving up one run on four hits with two strikeouts.

Maine and Binghamton close the series with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
