Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine softball game against UMass Lowell, originally scheduled for Wednesday at 3 p.m., has been postponed until Thursday, April 27 at 4 p.m. due to inclement weather.
The first-place Black Bears (15-18, 9-1 America East) will be looking for their seventh-straight victory, and sixth-straight in league play, when they play host to the River Hawks (18-18, 9-4 AE) at Kessock Field.
A LOOK AT MAINE:
Maine is coming off a two-game weekend sweep at UMBC, winning by scores of 4-1 and 7-1.
Alyssa Derrick had a terrific week to earn her second-consecutive America East Player of the Week honor. Derrick, who has belted a home run in four of her last five games, enters action with an eight-game hit streak and leads the league with 12 home runs.
Rachel Carlson, who has reached base safely in each of Maine's last 14 games, leads the way with a .356 average, featuring team-highs in hits (37) and stolen bases (12).
Rachel Harvey, currently riding a team-leading and team season-high 12 game hit streak, is batting .340 with 18 RBI, 17 runs and 35 hits. Derrick has raised her average to .296 and currently is Maine's leader with 29 RBI and 66 total bases.
Meghan Royle is chipping in a .295 mark with 10 runs and 14 RBI while
Erika Leonard (.265) is Maine's leader in runs scored at 22 to go along with 19 RBI.
Annie Kennedy is 5-3 in the circle with a 3.90 ERA and 30 strikeouts over 66.1 innings.
Erin Bogdanovich also has five wins and features a 4.41 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 74.2 innings.
Molly Flowers, Maine's leader in strikeouts (53) is 5-7 with a 5.11 ERA in 63.0 innings.
A LOOK AT UMASS LOWELL:
The River Hawks currently sit third in the America East standings after taking two of three at Stony Brook last weekend. UMass Lowell, who enters play at 9-7 on the road, leads the league with a .299 mark at the plate. Courtney Cashman, a three-time America East Rookie of the Week, leads the way on offense for the River Hawks. Cashman leads the league in hitting at .418, is second among America East leaders in total hits (48) and ranks third with 28 runs scored. Madison Alcorn his batting .356 with 17 RBI and 15 runs while Alisha Welch is adding a .328 mark. Sydney Barker is the team's leader in home runs (6) and joins Cashman as co-leaders with 28 RBIs.
Lauren Ramirez is 7-8 in the circle with a 3.79 ERA and 72 strikeouts over 101.2 innings. Kaysee Talcik is the team's leader in strikeouts with 74 in 111.1 innings. Talcik is 6-9 with a 3.90 ERA.
SEASON RESULTS:
The two teams split a doubleheader in Lowell back on April 13. Maine took game one by a score of 8-2 before falling in the finale, 5-3. Harvey went 4-for-8 with three runs, give RBI and a home run in the doubleheader while
Maddie Decker is 3-for-3 with a double on the year against the River Hawks.
Alyssa Derrick and
Erika Leonard each tallied three hits and two RBIs back on April 13.
Annie Kennedy picked up the victory in the circle after going 6.1 innings while giving up just a pair of hits and striking out two.
