Men's Ice Hockey Travels to UConn for Thursday Night Matchup

The two teams will meet Thursday night, and again on Saturday afternoon at Frozen Fenway

ORONO, Maine - The Maine Black Bears look to rebound following last Friday's loss to the US National Team Development Program by a final of 6-2. The exhibition featured Maine starting debut for freshman Stephen Mundinger, along with Robin Hoglund's first game in a Black Bear sweater after transferring from the University of Minnesota a year ago. Maine now looks towards a showdown against the University of Connecticut at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT. Revenge will be on the Black Bears' minds as UConn was able to muster a 1-0-1 mark against the Black Bears in Alfond Arena last season.

Scouting The Black Bears
Maine looks to senior captain Cam Brown to continue leading the way as Black Bears visit the Huskies. Brown currently leads the team in both scoring and assists with 21 and 18 respectively. Senior Alternate Captain Blaine Byron also looks to stay hot with 9 goals and 11 assists through his first 20 games of the 2016-2017 campaign. Senior defenseman and Alternate Captain Eric Schurhamer is having a career year, and is coming off a 2 goal performance against UNH. The Black Bears boast a high flying freshmen class led by Chase Pearson who has tallied 10 goals and 5 assists to this point of his rookie campaign . The class as a whole is currently 4th in the country in scoring, and looks to continue this trend in their upcoming series against the Huskies. Lastly, Maine will look for strong goaltending to help lead them down the stretch of Hockey East play. Currently, Maine sits just two points out of hosting a home playoff series. Redshirt Senior Matt Morris, and Sophomore goaltender Rob McGovern hope to spearhead the way towards that home playoff spot.

Scouting the Huskies
UConn looks to hold court in a home away from home matchup against the Black Bears at Webster Bank Arena, located in Bridgeport,CT. The Huskies are led in scoring by Tage Thompson (12-8-20) and Maxim Letunov (5- 13-18). Both skaters were drafted in the early round of the NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues with Thompson going in the 1st round and Letunov going in the 2nd. UConn has seen the goaltending duties split by Senior goaltender Rob Nichols of Dallas, Texas, and Freshman newcomer Adam Huska. Both goaltenders have 4 wins on the year including .913 and .923 save percentages, respectively. Tage Thompson and Adam Huska are freshly returned from the World Junior Championships in Toronto and Montreal with Thompson representing and winning gold with the United States, and Huska manning the net for Team Slovakia. The Black Bears will look to solve both players in a crucial Hockey East Matchup.
