Men's Ice Hockey Rolls to 5-1 Victory over Brown

Box Score PORTLAND, Maine -- Men's ice hockey rolls to a 5-1 victory over Brown University Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Arena. The Black Bears had three players that scored two points on the night; Cedric Lacroix scored two goals, Cam Brown notched a goal and an assist and Brendan Robbins added two assists.

The Black Bears improve to 5-7-3 on the season, while Brown falls to 1-8-0 overall.

Rob McGovern started in goal for the Black Bears and had 28 saves on the night only allowing one goal.

The first period was scoreless with no penalties called by either team. Brown out shot Maine 11-10 in the first period.

The first penalty of the game was called at the start of the second period on Maine for a tripping penalty, the Black Bears were able to kill of the penalty.

4:20 into the second, Brown was whistled for a slashing penalty. With :17 seconds remaining in the power play, Blaine Byron and Nolan Vesey set up Rob MIchel for the first goal of the game giving Maine a 1-0 lead.

Towards the end of the second, Cedric Lacroix scored Maine's second goal of the night. Brendan Robbins and Eric Schurhamer had assists on the play as Maine pulled ahead 2-0.

With :30 seconds remaining in the second, Sam Lafferty of Brown broke the scoreless drought for the Bears cutting into Maine's lead, 2-1.

Maine out shot Brown 12-9 in the second period.

In the third period, the Black Bears exploded for three unanswered goals. Cedric Lacroix scored his second of the night off of a Brendan Robbins and Patrick Holway assist, giving the Black Bears a 3-1 cushion.

6:44 into the third period, Brown was called for a slashing penalty giving Maine another power play opportunity. Rob Michel and Chase Pearson set up the captain Cam Brown for the power play goal giving Maine a commanding 4-1 lead. 

Maine was called for a holding penalty 9:35 into the third, Brown elected to pull their goalie for the extra man advantage on the power play opportunity. Cam Brown stole the puck in the Brown end and set up Blaine Byron for the empty net goal giving Maine a 5-1 lead.

The Black Bears outshot Brown 32-29 in the game. Rob McGovern earned the win and improves his record to the .500 mark at 5-5-3, while Tim Ernst falls to 1-2-0 on the year.

Maine returns to action next weekend as they take on Hockey East rival UNH on Friday Dec. 2 in Durham, NH for one game and then the two teams square off again the following night at Alfond Arena, with a puck drop at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at goblackbears.com or by calling 581-BEAR!
