Player and Rookie of the Week -- Hunter St. Denis became the first America East baseball player this season to earn the honor of grabbing both the Player and Rookie of the Week award in the same week. Last week at Binghamton, he slashed .428/.500/1.143 in a 2-1 weekend for the Black Bears. He hit three home runs, a double, stole a base, scored seven runs and drove in four runs. The honors were his third & fourth of the season, having earned two previous Rookie of the Week honors.
Best ERA --Â In conference-only games, the Black Bears pitching staff boast the lowest ERA in the conference, pitching to the tune of a 4.54 ERA as a staff across 18 games. Opponents are hitting the lowest batting average against in the conference at a .252 clip while striking out nearly six times a game against the staff.
Vaun Larisa has turned in three-straight quality starts to help lead the staff, followed by
Jason Krieger who also has three quality starts on the season in conference play, while also going eight innings on two separate occasions as the Friday starter.
Sebastian Holt leads the bullpen with a 2.16 ERA and three saves while
Pierce Friedman boasts a 3.63 ERA and has allowed just nine hits in 17.1 innings of work out of the bullpen. Holt's five saves overall leads the America East on the season.
Winning Weekends --Â The Black Bears have won six-straight weekend series, dating back to March 27-29, the last time they took on UMass Lowell. Over the course of the past six weeks, Maine has a 14-8 record and a 10-5 record in America East play, which has them sitting in second place in the conference standings with just two weeks to go in the regular season.
With a weekend sweep of UMass Lowell, paired with a Bryant loss and two losses by UMBC, the Black Bears would outright clinch a top-two seed for the America East playoffs, earning a first-round bye in the conference tournament, hosted by Binghamton.
Series History --Â This will be the 53rd meeting between these two programs on Friday. The Black Bears hold the all-time lead at 32-20, including taking two of three games earlier this season against the River Hawks down in Lowell.
