Weekly Honors -- The Black Bears opened the season by winning weekly awards for the first four weeks straight.Â
Jack Donlin and
Troy Carpenter earned Pitcher and Rookie of the Week on opening weekend, respectively, before Carpenter earned Rookie of the Week in week two for back-to-back honors.
Rex Hauser earned the honor of Rookie of the Week in week three before
Hunter St. Denis got the honor in week four with a .400/.500/1.121 slash line with two home runs, four runs and five RBIs.
Conference Leaders -- The Black Bears, who have hit the 44th most home runs in the NCAA through the first five weeks with 29, a number that is 16 home runs higher than the second place spot in the America East. Maine has an individual near the top of almost every single offensive category in the America East as a result of their strong start to the season at the plate. Carpenter leads the league with 20 RBI while
Juju Stevens leads the conference with eight home runs. Stevens also leads the America East with a 1.131 OPS and is tied with
Brody Rasmussen for fourth place in the conference with five doubles.
Non-Conference Recap -- The Black Bears went 2-17 through the bulk of their non-conference schedule on the season, but every team they faced concluded non-conference play with a winning record overall. Maine hit 29 home runs and drove in 89 runs over the 19 games. Stevens,
Quinn Murphy and
Shane Andrus all hit north of .300 while four Black Bears had double-digit RBI totals.
Series History -- This will be the 83rd meeting all-time between these two programs, with the Black Bears leading the all-time series 57-25. Last season, Maine took two of three games from the Retrievers, losing the first game 16-12 before winning 9-1 and 23-1 in the other two games of the series.
