Penty, Barratt lead Maine over Stonehill

Black Bears defeat Skyhawks, 5-1

ORONO, Maine – Eloise Penty and Martha Barratt each registered a pair of goals as the Black Bears completed the weekend sweep with a 5-1 victory over Stonehill on Sunday afternoon.

 

Penty, who tallied seven points on the day with two goals and three assists, started the scoring by cashing in her first of two penalty strokes 6:32 into the first quarter. The Black Bears extended the lead to 2-0 Nicole Kowalewski settled the penalty corner insert before sending it along the circle to Taylor Katsube who registered her first goal of the season.

 

Penty tacked on her second penalty stroke tally of the contest, 19:19 into the first half, to extend the lead to 3-0.

 

With Maine again working off the penalty corner, Martha Barratt's drag flick found the back of the cage for her first career goal.

 

The Black Bears' lead would stand at 4-0 entering the break.

 

Stonehill found the scoreboard in the third on Havana De roeck's goal to cut the lead to 4-1.

 

Barratt's second goal of the game again came on a drag flick off a corner midway through the fourth quarter.

 

Maine returns to action on Friday, Sept. 13 when it travels to take on Dartmouth at 3 p.m.

 

Notes:

  • The Black Bears held a 13-6 edge in shots on goals and an 11-6 advantage on penalty corners.
  • Jayde Temby earned her second consecutive win in the cage after making five saves.
  • Penty and Barratt each posted the first multi-goal performances of their careers.
  • Leyden Churchill, Gabrielle Sousa, and Allison Sweetser made their collegiate debuts.
