WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Maine field hockey team fell to American University, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at the Jacobs Recreational Complex.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead just under four minutes unto the contest, with Jordan Reicher driving in from the left side of the circle and squeaking the ball inside the near post. The one-goal lead would hold until halftime.

American would double the lead just over a minute into the third quarter off the stick of Sophie Willemse. Maine's best chance of the second half came when Saylor Kuefler's pass found Allison Sweetser on the back post but the deflection went just wide. The Eagles would add an insurance goal off a deflection of their own with 90 seconds remaining in the game.

Annabel Halkes finished with seven saves for Maine.

The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, Sept. 27 with a 12 p.m. game at Towson.
