Fifth time Halkes has won the award
ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine field hockey freshman Annabel Halkes has been named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday morning.
Halkes earned the weekly recognition following a standout weekend in net for the Black Bears, recording 15 saves across two contests against Bryant and Northeastern.
The freshman goalkeeper highlighted her weekend with a 12-save shutout performance in Maine's 3-0 conference victory over Bryant on Friday afternoon. Halkes made five saves in the opening quarter and six in the fourth quarter to secure her fifth shutout of the season.
Halkes followed that performance with three saves against Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.
Halkes' 12 saves against Bryant were a career high, and this is her fifth America East Goalkeeper of the Week honor of the season, following her previous award on October 6.
Maine returns to action on Friday, Oct. 23, when the Black Bears travel to face UMass Lowell at 3 p.m.
