Preview: Maine women's soccer returns home to host Holy Cross

The Black Bears and Crusaders are set to kickoff at 12 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond on Sunday.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will return home this weekend to host Holy Cross on Sunday, Sept. 7.
 
The Black Bears and Crusaders are set to kickoff at 12 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond.

The non-conference contest will stream live on America East TV. As part of the annual 'Pups at the Pitch' game, the first 25 dogs at the game will receive a Maine Black Bears bandanna.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine sits at 1-2-1 on the year after going 1-0-1 in two road games last week … the Black Bears earned a 3-2 win at Merrimack before battling to a 2-2 tie at Army.
• Emma Nicholson scored her second goal of the season in the game at Army and now has two on the year … Victoria Dungey earned an assist in the Army game and has a team-leading two on the year.
• Forward Jordane Pinette, goalkeeper Grace Wilson and defender Rebecca Grisdale were all named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team … in the preseason poll, the Black Bears earned four first place votes and were picked to finish third.
• Maine went 13-2-3 overall in 2024 en route to the program's second consecutive America East tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth … 17 student-athletes from the 2024 squad have returned for Maine in 2025.
 
ABOUT HOLY CROSS
• The Crusaders enter Sunday's contest at 2-3-1 overall … Holy Cross is on a two-game winning streak after picking up a 2-0 win over Marist and a 3-1 win over New Hampshire last week.
• The 2025 Holy Cross squad returns five players who recorded at least five points a season ago.
• Karenna Beckstein and Olivia Perez both have a team-high four points on one goal and two assists … Holy Cross has scored eight goals, with all eight coming from different players.
• Goalkeeper Aubrey Haesche is 2-1-1 with one shutout.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs HOLY CROSS
• Maine is 10-8-1 all-time against Holy Cross ... the Black Bears currently have a six-game unbeaten streak against the Crusaders.
• The teams met last year in Worcester with the Black Bears earning a 1-0 win … Jordane Pinette scored 90 seconds into the contest while Grace Wilson made five saves for the shutout.
• Holy Cross last came to Orono in 2023 and battled the Black Bears to a 1-1 tie … Elle Vermilya scored with 11 seconds remaining to earn the tie for Maine.
• The first-ever meeting between these two teams came in the 1994 season, with Holy Cross picking up a 3-1 victory.

• Maine will close out non-conference regular season play when it travels to Connecticut to take on the UConn Huskies at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14.
