Preview: Maine travels to face Merrimack, Army

The Black Bears face the Warriors on Thursday and the Black Knights on Sunday.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will hit the road this week, traveling to face Merrimack and Army in the first road games of the 2025 season.
 
The Black Bears and Warriors will kick off at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28 while the Maine-Army game on Sunday, Aug. 31 is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
 
Both of Maine's games this week will air live on ESPN+.

ABOUT MAINE
• The Black Bears sit at 0-2-0 on the year after falling to Rhode Island in the season opener and Patriot League-favorite Boston University this past Sunday.
• Emma Nicholson scored her first career goal against the Terriers and Grace Johnson picking up her first collegiate point with an assist on the play … Nicholson leads Maine with four shots on the year.
• Forward Jordane Pinette, goalkeeper Grace Wilson and defender Rebecca Grisdale were all named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team … in the preseason poll, the Black Bears earned four first place votes and were picked to finish third.
• Maine went 13-2-3 overall in 2024 en route to the program's second consecutive America East tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth … 17 student-athletes from the 2024 squad have returned for Maine in 2025.
 
ABOUT MERRIMACK
• The Warriors enter Thursday's contest at 1-1-1 overall on the year … Merrimack tied Vermont in the season opener, topped UMass Lowell and then fell to Dartmouth.
• Merrimack was picked to finish seventh in the 2025 MAAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• The Warriors went 7-9-3 overall in last season … Isabelle Keogh returns for the squad after leading the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists in 2024.
 
 SERIES HISTORY vs MERRIMACK
• Maine sits at 1-1-4 in the all-time series with Merrimack.
• Last season, the Black Bears and Warriors played to a 0-0 tie in Orono.
• Maine is 0-1-2 against Merrimack on the road and 1-0-2 at home.
• The Black Bears' lone win in the series came in the first-ever meeting in the form of a 3-1 victory back in 2019.
 
ABOUT ARMY
• The Black Knights, who play at Central Connecticut State on Thursday night, sit at 3-1-0 overall on the season … Army fell to Providence in the season opener but has won three straight games over Manhattan, Air Force and UAlbany.
• Army was picked to finish second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, earning two first-place votes, while midfielder Brigid Duffy and defender Jordan Follenweider were named to the All-Patriot League Preseason Team.
• Duffy has three goals through Army's first four games while first-year Sophia Henry has scored four goals.
• Army went 12-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in Patriot League play last season.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs ARMY
• Maine is 0-4-0 all-time against Army … these two teams have not faced each other since the 1995 season.
• The first-ever meeting in the series came on Sept. 9, 1990, with the Black Knights picking up a 4-0 win at the Rhode Island Invitational.
