Leys Headlines Yearly America East Honors for Baseball

Leys Named Pitcher of the Year

Orono, ME - The America East Conference announced their yearly awards on Tuesday afternoon as Caleb Leys was named the America East Pitcher of the Year. Maine earned a total of 9 honors on the season.

Leys, a native of Middletown, RI, bounced back from a 2024 season in which he missed the entirety of due to Tommy John Surgery in the biggest way possible, by being named the Pitcher of the Year and an All-Conference First Team Member. He had the lowest ERA (1.10), fourth-lowest batting average against (.224) and fourth-most strikeouts (50) in his eight starts conference starts and his 2.44 ERA overall was the lowest in the conference by over one run a game (2.44-3.67).

Brody Rasmussen, a native of Boise, ID, made his presence felt in his first year as a Black Bear and at the DI level as he also earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team. He slashed .308/.368/.495 with 7 home runs, 31 RBIs, 12 doubles and 4 triples. He also swiped 6 bags and was one of only three qualified players to commit 0 errors on the season, regardless of position.

Myles Sargent, a native of Greenland, NH, paced the Black Bears in almost every category on the season as he earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. He slashed .335/.394/.553 with 7 home runs and 40 RBIs on the season. He hit a team-best .397 in 21 conference games, driving in 29 runs.

Gianni Gambardella, a native of West Haven, CT, earned his third-straight All-Conference honor as he made the second-team for the second-straight year (First Team in 2022). He fired off 61 and 2/3 innings on the mound to the tune of a 4.82 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP and 51 strikeouts. His ERA was the sixth-best in the conference and strikeouts was good for the 10th-most in the conference.

Evan Menzel, a native of Coventry, CT, concluded his first year of college baseball with a spot on All-Conference Second Team and the All-Rookie Team. He led the Black Bears with a 1.009 OPS, .354 batting average, a .460 on-base percentage and was second with a .549 slugging percentage. He drove in 18 runs and scored 28 runs in his 34 games played.

Aidan Bardi, a native of Long Island, NY, found himself a spot on the All-Rookie Team as he slashed .309/.444/.381 in 32 games as a Black Bear. He hit one home run, drove in 14 runs and had a combined 25 walks and hit-by-pitches to only 20 strikeouts.

Colin Fitzgerald, a native of Lititz, PA, rounded out the honors as he earned a spot on the All-Academic Team. He led the America East in innings pitched (88.2) while having a 5.68 ERA, a conference-leading 78 strikeouts and a 3.97 GPA in the classroom.
