Former Black Bears compete in first round of FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2027 Qualifiers

ORONO, Maine – Four former members of the University of Maine women's basketball program recently competed in the first round of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2027 Qualifiers.

 

Sigi Koizar (Austria), Dor Saar (Israel), Anne Simon (Luxembourg), and Fanny Wadling (Sweden) each competed for their native countries in the first round.

 

Koizar guided Austria to a 3-0 start and currently leads the team with 8.0 assists per game. Koizar is averaging 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds along with a team-high 36.6 minutes. Koizar produced her highest point total of the first round when she netted 15 against Great Britain and dished out 10 assists against Switzerland.

 

Saar has aided Israel to a 3-0 mark as she is averaging 1.7 points, 1.0 rebound and 2.3 assists through three games. Saar posted five points in Israel's opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina and has posted three assists in two of the three games.

 

Simon currently leads Luxembourg in scoring (14.3) and assists (5.7) as she has guided her native country to a 2-1 start. Simon's points per game rank 38th best overall in the tournament while her 5.7 assists mark her 14th. She opened play with a 16 point effort against Ireland before registering 18 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in game two against Israel.  

 

Wadling, who has appeared in two games for Sweden, leads the team in rebounding (6.0) and ranks second with 2.0 assists. Wadling, who is averaging 5.5 points per game, turned in her best effort of the tournament when she netted eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists against Finland.

 

FIBA Women's EuroBasket play resumes in March.
