LAST TIME OUT:
The University of Maine women's basketball program fell in a close battle at VCU on Friday, 81-77. A back-and-forth battle broke out in the third quarter as neither side was able to get more than a five-point advantage until late in the third quarter when VCU pushed its lead out to 10, 60-50. The Black Bears were able to trim the deficit down to three points on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter, but ultimately were defeated in the end. Kaliyah Sain led the way for Maine with 26 points on 50% shooting, going 6-of-11 from three-point range. Sain added 10 rebounds for her first Maine double-double.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears enter Monday night in search of their first win of the season after opening the season with three losses against stiff competition. Adrianna Smith, the 2022-23 America East Player of the Year who missed last season due to an injury suffered in the preseason, has returned strong with double-doubles in two of her first three outings. Smith enters play averaging 19.3 points, 9.3  rebounds, and 5.3 assists, all team-highs, on the young season. Asta Blauenfeldt, riding an eight-game double-figure scoring streak, is adding 16.3 points with a team-best 48.6-percent showing from the floor and a team-high 40.7-percent clip from three-point range. Kaliyah Sain is adding 12.7 points and 7.0 rebounds, coming off her first career double-double with 26 points and 10 rebouds at VCU while Sarah Talon is adding 6.0 points and 5.3 rebounds. The Black Bears have posted single-digit turnover totals (4, 8) in two of their first three outings and enter play ranked 13th in the nation with just 10.3 turnovers per game. As is custom for the Maine offense, the Black Bears currently lead the America East and rank 24th nationally at 29.3 three-point attempts per game. The Black Bears, coming off a season-high 11 made triples at VCU, leads the America East with 8.3 triples per game. Maine's 1.35 assist-to-turnover ratio is second best in the conference. Last year, Maine led the America East in assists (14.8 per game) and three-point field goals made (8.2 per game). Head Coach Amy Vachon enters her ninth season at the helm of the program after becoming Maine's all-time winningest coach last year. Vachon, a five-time conference coach of the year, enters the season with 169 victories.

A LOOK AT STONEHILL:
The Skyhawks enter play at 2-1 and riding a two-game win streak with recent victories over Niagara (65-50) and Rider (77-55). Reese Roggenburg leads Stonehill at 13.3 points and 9.7 rebounds while Brooke Paquette is adding 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. Stonehill ranks second in the NEC in scoring (67.5) and scoring defense (58.3) and are averaging 42.0 rebounds per outing.

SERIES HISTORY WITH STONEHILL:
Maine and Stonehill met for the first time in history a season ago with the Black Bears earning an 87-75 victory in Easton, Mass. Sarah Talon posted nine points in the win a year ago while Asta Blauenfeldt added seven points as Maine shot 47% from the floor while hitting 14 triples. This marks Maine's first meeting with Stonehill. Maine enters play 19-6 all-time against current NEC programs (1-0 vs. Saint Francis; 3-0 against Long Island, 14-5 against Central Connecticut State, 0-1 against FDU, 1-0 against Stonehill.)
