Women's Basketball set to to meet Brown on Sunday

Tip-off set for 12 p.m. in Providence

ORONO, Maine – Following its victory over Stonehill, the University of Maine women's basketball team hits the road to meet Brown on Sunday at noon live on ESPN+.

The Black Bears return to the road for their first trip to Brown since 2019 where they dropped a 76-70 overtime decision to the Bears.

Monday's home game can be seen nationally on ESPN+. Additionally, Sunday's game can be heard on the Black Bears Sports Network at GoBlackBears.com and on 92.9 FM.

LAST TIME OUT:
ORONO, Maine -- Adrianna Smith posted 26 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season as the University of Maine women's basketball team registered its first victory of the season, defeating Stonehill 79-53 on Monday evening.

Smith, who added four assists to her night in which she finished 10-of-15 from the floor, joined Liz Wood as the only Black Bears in program history to eclipse 1,200 points, 700 rebounds, and 300 assists in a career.

Asta Blauenfeldt stretched her double-digit scoring streak to nine-straight with a 14 point performance on 6-of-9 shooting while Lizzy Gruber posted a career-high 13 points off the bench.

Maine dominated the rebounding column by a 45-31 margin with 16 offensive boards while shooting 32-for-69 (46.4) from the floor. The Black Bears held a 21-5 advantage in points off turnovers and a 44-26 edge in points from the paint.

The Black Bears distanced themselves from Stonehill by outscoring the Skyhawks 49-23 in the second and third quarters combined.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Adrianna Smith, returning this season after missing last year due to injury, has bounced back and currently ranks tied for the America East lead in scoring (21.0) while checking in second in the league at 10.3 rebounds. Smith is one of two players in the America East currently averaging a double-double as she has posted double-doubles in three of Maine's first four games. Asta Blauenfeldt, riding a nine-game double-figure scoring streak, ranks fourth in the America East in scoring at 15.8 points per game while leading the conference with 3.3 triples per outing. Maine newcomer Kaliyah Sain is averaging 11.0 points and 6.8 rebounds after posting a career-high 26 points on six triples at VCU. Maine, coming off its highest point total of the season (79), ranks sixth in the America East in scoring (66.3) and seventh in scoring defense (65.8). The Black Bears lead the America East at 38.5 rebounds per game including a league-leading 14.0 per outing on the offensive end. Maine's 27.3 triple attempts per game rank 30th in the nation and tops in the America East while its 11.0 turnovers per outing check in 8th in the nation and tops in the league. 

A LOOK AT BROWN:
The Bears are 2-2 on the season, 1-0 at home, after scoring a 57-54 victory over Boston University on Wednesday evening. Brown, which returns 10 from last season's team, including second team All-Ivy selection, Grace Arnolie. Arnolie and Alyssa Moreland lead Brown in scoring, each at 14.0 points per game. Moreland is averaging a double-double with a team-high 10.8 rebounds and also team-best 3.2 steals. Arnolie also leads the team at 5.0 assists per game. Brown ranks sixth in the Ivy in scoring (59.5) and fourth in scoring defense (64.0).

SERIES HISTORY WITH BROWN: 
Maine and Brown meet for the 15th time with the Black Bears holding an 8-6 edge in the all-time series. The series has been tight of late, with Maine winning three of the last five. Each of the last two meetings went to overtime with Brown winning 76-70 in a 2019 overtime meeting and the Black Bears earning a 102-96 double-overtime win in 2018. The last five games have been decided by six or fewer points. Maine is 1-4 all-time at Brown with its last road win in the series coming in 2014, a 60-59 decision. The teams first met in 1984, a 60-58 Brown win in Providence.
