Fallon and Rieth Lead Softball to Friday Sweep of Dartmouth and Saint Mary's

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MORAGA, Calif. -- The University of Maine softball team defeated Dartmouth College, 8-5, in the first game of the day before defeating Saint Mary's College, 5-1.
 
Game One: University of Maine 8, Dartmouth College 5
 
In the bottom of the third inning, Caitlyn Fallon took her talents to the batter's box. The senior provided herself some run support with a solo shot to the left field. With runners on first and second, Mariah Pearson doubled down the left field line. Jasmine Gray came around to score on the extra base hit. Izzy Nieblas scored Krista Francia from third with a sacrifice fly.
 
Dartmouth pulled to within a run in the top of the fourth inning after they launched a two-run shot to center field. Maine got one more back when Kennedy Priest scored on a sacrifice fly lifted by Jasmine Gray. After four complete innings, the Bears led 4-2.
 
Dartmouth took a one run lead in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a three-run home run. Maine took the lead back with back-to-back RBI singles from Kennedy Priest and Caitlyn Fallon. At the end of five innings, Maine once again had a one run lead, 6-5.
 
 They were the final runs of the day as Maine won, 6-5.
 
Notes: Game Two: University of Maine 5, Saint Mary's College 1
 
In the top of the first, Grace McGouldrick led off the game with a single. The graduate student then stole second and third. She would score on an error committed by the Saint Mary's catcher.
 
The Bears struck next in the top of the third. Katie Jo Moery came around to score after Madison Hand laid down a perfect bunt. Saint Mary's committed an error which allowed Moery to score. The Gaels got one back in their half of the fourth with an RBI double. After four complete, Maine held a 3-1 lead.
 
Hand and McGouldrick both scored in the top of the fifth inning. McGouldrick allowed Hand to score after she forced the infield to commit an error, while Krista Francia doubled home McGouldrick.
 
They were the final runs of the day as Maine won, 5-1.
 
Notes: Next: The Black Bears are scheduled to return to the diamond Saturday, March 18 at Saint Mary's. First pitch in Moraga, California is scheduled for 1:00 pm ET/10:00 am PT.
